POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the accountant, the junior accountant will be responsible for preparing the monthly, quarterly, and annual schedules as well as ad hoc reports and assisting in the departmental financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. The junior accountant will also support the accounts receivable and payable functions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Preparation of schedules and ad hoc reports
- prepares
- bank reconciliations and journal entries
- monthly investment schedules and journal entries
- monthly capital spending monitoring
- monthly GST/PST schedules
- monthly rental income and occupancy costs schedule
- monthly allocation entries for indirect expenses
- assists in ad hoc reporting and other tasks that are assigned from time to time
Financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- assists in monthly, quarterly, or yearly departmental financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- prepares quarterly/annual statements of operations for the ministry of health to comply with the government grant reporting requirements
- prepares amortization forecasts
Assists in accounts payable and receivable tasks
Accounts payable
- reviews, reconciles and prepares journal entries of credit card transactions
- coordinates and requests copies of missing credit card transactions supporting documents
Accounts receivable
- processes the billing of application fees, annual fees, workshop fees, and recoverable costs
- coordinates outstanding iMIS registrants and professional medical corporation (PMC) balances with relevant departments and provides an action plan on whether the unpaid balances are for adjustments or should remain outstanding for future collections
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required skills and qualifications include:
- a bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
- minimum of two years or more of progressively responsible accounting experience
- proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel (advanced level), Word, and Outlook
- working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar ERP applications
- ability to work under pressure while paying attention to detail and ensuring accuracy
- practical organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- a team player with effective interpersonal and communication skills, and a positive attitude exemplified by patience and a willingness to learn
- flexibility in work hours to meet deadlines
- can handle confidential materials and information with the highest level of integrity
