Policy Coordinator, Communications and Public Affairs

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the policy and engagement lead in the communications and public affairs department, the policy coordinator will support the core activities of a growing policy team including the policy development and review process, research, coordinating consultation and engagement activities, data analysis and writing. The ideal candidate has experience dealing with highly visible and scrutinized policy issues, and is a diligent, focused and detail-oriented professional with superior written and oral communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- support all elements of the policy (practice standards, professional guidelines, and legislative guidance) development and review process
- conduct research to support policy analysis (literature reviews, cross-jurisdictional research and environmental scans)
- contribute to the preparation and management of consultation and engagement with stakeholders (such as drafting survey questions and organizing focus groups)
- analyze results and prepare written reports and briefing notes for the Board and committees
- develop presentations and educational resources
- assist in the development of public submissions and position statements relating to the mandate of the College
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required skills and qualifications include:
- relevant post-secondary degree
- one to three years of related experience, preferably in a regulatory environment, government, or BC’s health-care system
- experience working effectively with all levels of the organization, and as part of a team
- excellent research, writing and presentation skills
- able to establish effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external partners
- able to objectively analyze data, including large qualitative data sets (ability to conduct quantitative data analysis would be considered an asset)
- excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- proficiency in producing spreadsheets, flowcharts, project plans, templates, presentations
- willing to take initiative, be resourceful, and fulfill the responsibilities of the position with a positive, “whatever it takes to get the job done” attitude
- demonstrated poise and professionalism, political acuity, tact and discretion
